Bertie Byrd, 88, a native of Hornbeck and resident of Many. Born January 20, 1933. Maxine passed away on May 1, 2021 at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She graduated from Hornbeck High School and Business College in Baton Rouge. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed quilting, sewing and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Brenda and Cliff Winburn of Saucier, Mississippi; granddaughters, April Winburn and Norman Boyd of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi; and Kristina Winburn of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; her two sons and daughters in law, Kenneth and Brenda Byrd of Weatherford, Texas; grandsons, Justin and wife Sonya of Granbury, Texas; great granddaughters, Logan and Andi; Tyler and wife Shayla of Columbus, Georgia; Gary and Rena’ Byrd of Walker, Louisiana; step-grandchildren, April, Lisa and Jarrett; step great grandchildren, Katelyn; Mason; Caleb; and Charleigh; sister-in-law, Miami Spears of Shreveport; brother in law, Larry Byrd of Houston, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Ottis G. Byrd; parents, William Penn Spears and Bertie Williams Spears; siblings, Nettie Lee Berel; Effie Lou Coco; Alfred Louis Spears; Fay Spears; William Cullen Spears; Clarence William Spears; Eva Lee Bond; AJ Spears; Huey Spears; and Charles William Spears.
Services were held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Rev. Matt Warren and Rev. Joey Williams officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery in Florien.
