Delores “DeLo” Lewing was born December 4, 1935 and passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on July 13, 2019.
Services celebrating her full and joyous life will be held on July 20 at 2 p.m. at Alford Heights Baptist Church in Many with burial at Old Pisgah Cemetery following the service. Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. immediately prior to the service.
DeLo was born and raised in Belmont where she became known for her skill on the basketball court at Belmont High School. She later married Wayne Lewing and moved to Fisher where they raised their two daughters, Diane and Kim. DeLo was a kind and steadfast daughter, mother, sister, wife, grandmother, and a friend to all. If you made it out to her house, you could count on a full meal waiting on you, most of which would be lovingly fried, with a side of tea almost as sweet as her. DeLo was a faithful member of Alford Heights Baptist Church, and she loved spending time with her friends in the women’s group.
All who knew DeLo can attest to her kindness, but to her close friends and family, she took on an even greater role of such quiet strength and selflessness. She never missed an opportunity to lend a helping hand, and she never dared ask for a thank you. She loved deeply and was treasured in return. She was stubborn and fierce in the best possible way, endearing her to all with her playful humor and making her a force to be reckoned with. Her greatest pride and joy, though, was being “MawMaw” to her three grandchildren, who absolutely adored her.
Remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters, Diane McLendon and her husband Skipper of Branson, Missouri and Kim Lewing of Shreveport; her grandchildren, Zach McLendon of Alexandria, Bailey Monsour of New Orleans, and Alex Monsour of St. Petersburg, Florida; and brothers, Ronnie Wyatt and wife Betty of New Caney, Texas and Donnie Wyatt and wife Vickie of Branson, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Wyatt Sr. and Ethel Moore Wyatt; brothers, Charles Glynn Wyatt, Carl Wyatt Jr. and Gene Wyatt; sister, Marguerite Wyatt Montelongo; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Honoring DeLo as pallbearers will be Wayne Adams, Dean Lewing, Richard Wyatt, Jeff Franks, Fernando Montelongo, and Thurman Ritter.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Garden Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Shreveport for their kind and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Old Pisgah Cemetery fund in her honor at 11448 Highway 120, Marthaville, LA 71450.
