William Dwight “Sid” Spilker came into this world on March 5, 1954, born in Shreveport to the parents of William “Bill” and Mary Jo Spilker. He grew up as a small town country boy who enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing softball, and enjoying life. He married his high school sweetheart, Kathy Sue Gaddis. They were married 44 years and loved each other through thick and thin, sickness and health, and their true love was an example to us all. Sid and Kathy had three children, Stephen Brand Spilker, Brittany Allison Spilker Merricks, and Michael Cody Spilker. They welcomed three grandchildren, Haley Lauren Spilker, Hannah Grace Spilker, and Rylen Hunter Spilker into this world with open arms and love like no other. His grand-babies were his world. Dwight was more than just a husband, father, or grandfather. He was a best friend, a helping hand, a shoulder to lean on, a daddy, and a “Paw Paw Baby.” He always knew how to bring a smile to your face with a goofy joke or saying. He always had Godly advice in any situation. Sid, as most knew him, loved building with wood, listening to gospel music, spending time with family, and being outdoors. He worked in the timber industry for 43 years. He was a deacon of New Bethel Baptist Church in Chauncey, Georgia. He went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 20, 2018, surrounded by his family and friends in his log cabin in Helena, Georgia. He is survived by a much older sister, according to him while laughing, Camilla Jean Spilker. He also had several nephews and one niece. Spouses of children include Joey Merricks, Rinette Spilker, and Ashley Wright. Funeral services were held on October 26 at Belmont Union Baptist Church, Belmont. Glen Howard will officiate the ceremony. Pallbearers included Carlton Salley, Wayne Salley, Karl Stephens, Bruce Grove, Danny Joe Lites, William Skipper, Jeremy Allen, and Colton Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are David Yawn, Sammy Rawlins, David Brown, Dan Gilbert, Howard Seymour, and Locke Barlow. The family ask in lieu of flowers to make donations “In Memory of Sid Spilker” to New Bethel Baptist Church, 4017 New Bethel Church Road, Helena, Georgia, 31037.
