Donald Morgan Zick, beloved husband, father, grand-father and brother, was led home by his Lord and Savior on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017, at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center in Webster, Texas. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family after a brief, but valiant, battle with cancer.Don was born on November 21, 1946, in Many, where he met his bride of 47 years, and together, raised their own family. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a medic before continuing his education at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. He was also a graduate of the school of banking at Louisiana State University.For 43 years, Sabine State Bank & Trust Company was his second home, where he helped his community daily. In December of 2015, Don retired as a Senior Vice President from the bank in order to spend more time with his family. He was also an active member at First United Methodist Church in Many. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching LSU Football, grilling outdoors, and when he was able, hunting and fishing.Don was preceded in death by his adoring grandparents, Daniel Morgan and Cora Tee Norris, and Arthur Harold and Josephine Zick; and parents, Francis Arthur, Sr. and Patti Jean Zick.He is survived by his devoted wife, Glenda Tackett Zick; daughters, Krista Zick Winfree of Deville and Kerri Zick Beasley, of League City, Texas; grandsons, Jacob Shane Beasley, Brian Malcom Winfree, Jonah Aaron Beasley, Brett Matthew Winfree and Brody James Winfree; granddaughters, Morgan Beasley Atwood, Lelia Beasley Grimm and Brianna Lauren Winfree; great granddaughters, Macie Kay Grimm and Ava Camille Atwood; great grandson, Rafe Bradley Grimm; brother, Francis Arthur “Buddy” Zick, Jr., and wife, Paula Zick; and sisters, Jane Zick Rathburn and husband, Bill Rathburn, Jean Zick Salley and husband, Dennis Salley, Judy Zick Heil and husband, John Heil. Additionally, he was lovingly called Uncle Don, Daddy Don and Mr. Don by a host of young people who were brought into his life through his daughters, neighbors, family and friends.Serving as pallbearers were Thomas Freeman, William Tynes, Brett Heil, Justin Grimm, Jared Atwood, and Jim Cole. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Gates, Stan Russell, Doug Patrick, Larry Hattaway, Chuck Boudreaux, Ted Fontenot, and John Migliore.Services for Mr. Zick were held at the First United Methodist Church in Many on April 20, with Bro. Bo Horn of First United Methodist Church officiated Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church and the American Cancer Society.
