Funeral services for Glenda Turner Salter, 73, of Florien, were held November 13 at First Baptist Church of Florien with the Reverends Wilton Anthony and Patrick Morgan officiating. Burial followed in the Florien Cemetery. Glenda was born on Saturday, September 4, 1943 in Sabine Parish. She graduated from Florien High School and earned her degree from Northwestern State University. She married James Lamar Salter in 1965 and was a devoted and loving wife until his fatal car accident in October 1983. She came to know the Lord at a young age and played the piano and organ for her church since she was 15 years of age and continued to play keyboard each Sunday until her passing. She once mentioned that she had not missed many Sundays in all those years. In 1999, she retired from the LA Department of Family Services after 33 years of service. While employed with the DFS, Mrs. Salter was a social worker for the elderly, disabled and the blind citizens of Sabine Parish. She later transitioned into Child Protection where she was an advocate for neglected and abused children of the parish. After retirement, she volunteered in various organizations and was very active in the Sabine Council on Aging in recent years. She also provided care and companionship for her parents, in-laws, and other family members and friends during their final years. She went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Sabine Medical Center in Many. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Reginald Turner and Glynetta Finley Turner and her husband, James Lamar Salter. She is survived by her sons, Don Wesley Salter and wife, Jennifer Peterson Salter, of Shreveport, Jon David Salter and wife, Kimberly Stone Salter, of Hammond, and Chris Alan Salter of Baton Rouge; sister, Tracey Regina Turner of Florien; brothers, William Wayne Turner and wife, Diane, of Many and Steven Lane Turner and wife, Tanya, of Florien; grandchildren, Daniel Lamar Salter of Shreveport, Andrew Benjamin Salter of Shreveport, Corinne Arrington Salter of Prairieville, Lucille Finley Salter of Prairieville, and Jackson Wyatt Salter of Hammond; brother-in-law, Joe Reece Salter and wife, Bettye Lilly Salter of Florien; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She would have wanted us to celebrate her life and not to grieve. She is home with the Lord and many family and friends that she dearly loves.
