Harlon W. Wright of Many, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Willis Knighton North Medical Center in Shreveport. He was surrounded by his loving family. Harlon graduated from Many High School in 1954. He spent some time working in the oil fields before opening Wright’s Texaco in Many alongside his father, Maston Wright. The two operated the business together until 1976. Harlon then joined Hanna Abington Ford. He was one of their highest achieving sales people and later served as finance manager for the dealership. In 1987, he joined People’s State Bank, where he enjoyed working for many years, and eventually retired as Branch President of the Zwolle location in 2003. More than one generation of children knew Mr. Wright as the bus driver who escorted them safely back and forth to school for 17 years. Throughout his varied career, he was well known and made many friends in Many and around Sabine Parish. He was an active member of the community and was a charter member of the Jaycees. Harlon was a member and Past Master of Many Lodge #411, a member of Scottish Rite Valley of Shreveport and a member of El Karuba Shrine, Shreveport. He was well-known for his cooking ability and often asked to don his apron at community events and fundraisers. Harlon was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalind Carter Wright on October 26, 2013; parents, Maston and Ester Wright and brother, Eugene Wright. He is survived by his son, Walker Wright and wife, Heather; daughters, Ann Wright, and Amy Self and husband, Randall; grandchildren, Christopher Self and wife, Alyssa, Michael Self and wife, Rebecca, Peter Wright and wife, Etienna, Katie and Jessica Wright, and Gracie and Ella Self; great-grandchildren, Claudia, Sam and Ben Wright, Beau and Rosalie Self and a host of nephews and nieces. Visitation was held at Warren Meadows Funeral Home on October 28, and Saturday, October 29 until time of service. Funeral services were held October 29 at First Baptist Church in Many, with graveside services following at Oak Hill Baptist Church. Pallbearers were Walker Wright, Randall Self, Peter Wright, Christopher Self, Michael Self, and Mark Wright. Honorary pallbearers were Oscar Alford, Wilbert Curtis, Pete Abington, Gerald Carter Beasley, Bill Beasley and Steve Beasley.
