Vernie Charles “V.C.” Eason, 92, of Many went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center. Vernie had been a resident of Many for over 60 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in France during WWII. He worked for the U.S. Army, Fort Polk, for 32 years and retired as the Deputy Comptroller, Resource Management Division. After retirement from the US Civil Service, he served as Operations Manager for the Sabine Parish Water District #1, retiring after 25 years. Vernie was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and a man of strong faith. He was a devoted Christian and an inspiration to so many. For many years he served as church leader, deacon, Sunday school teacher and Sunday School Superintendent in his local church, Lewing Chapel. He lived by God’s Holy Word and stood on the scripture of Joshua 24:15, “But as for me and my house,we will serve the Lord.”  Vernie was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Lewing Eason; parents, George Buchanan and Emily Drusilla Shirley Eason; nine brothers and sisters, and one daughter-in-law, Rhonda Rains Eason. Survivors include son, Scott Eason of Many; daughters, Donna Eason Ross and husband, Bill, Sandie Eason Guillot and husband, Russ, and Dusty Eason Heard and husband, Mark, all of Many; grandchildren, Will Ross and wife, Teresa, Haley Heard Swindle and husband, Jacob, Laurin Guillot Grevemberg and husband, Kenny, Weston Eason and Ally Eason, all of Many; great grandchildren, Tana Ross McNeely and husband, Jesse, Tristaan Ross, Wakely Swindle, and Ava Grevemberg, all of Many; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Pallbearers were Randy Skidmore, Tommy Early, Bryan Hendrickson, Bruce Hendrickson, Jimmy Young, and Danny Cook. Honorary pallbearers were Will Ross, Jacob Swindle, Kenny Grevemberg, Jesse McNeely, Weston Eason, LaWayne Horton, George Green, and Truitt Eason. Funeral services were September 13, at Lewing Chapel, 982 W.B. Lewing Road, Many, with the Reverends Donnie Paul Lewing and Joe Hendrickson officiating. Interment was in the Lewing Chapel Cemetery.
