Funeral services for Peggye Anne Matthews Rivers, 79, were held September 6, at Friendship Church of the Nazarene, in Robeline, with the Rev. James Ericson officiating. Burial followed at the Friendship Cemetery under the direction of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home of Natchitoches. Mrs. Rivers passed away Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Christus Highland Medical Center in Shreveport after a brief illness. Survivors include Wayne Rivers and wife, Cindy, of Kingwood, Texas, and Elaine Sandifer and husband, John, of Natchitoches; grandchildren, Sylvia Krkoska, Brooke Roark, Leslie Roark and Christian Walters, Mitch Rivers and wife, Cari, Spencer Rivers and wife, Whitney, Chelsea Rivers, Leon Norsworthy and wife, Hanna, and Matt Branam; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Jane Larpenter and husband, Jerry; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Matthews and Betty Matthews; and nieces and nephews and first cousins who were all very special to her. Mrs. Rivers is preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Jane Roark and son-in-law, Tommy Roark; parents, James Rufus and Mary Melvina Stewart Matthews; brothers, Billy Gene Matthews, Bobby Ray Matthews, and Harold Dan Matthews, her twin brother; and her former spouse, Eirtis Rivers, the father of her children. Mrs. Rivers spent over 20 years as a military wife while raising her children from Beeville, Texas to Guam and places in between. She loved her family and friends, but most of all loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She attended Friendship Church of the Nazarene where she loved worshiping with her family and friends. She worked many years for Dr. Charlie B. Tramel, a dentist in Many, and retired from ABC Finance Company in Many. She was a kind and compassionate daughter, caring mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt and will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her. Pallbearers were Mitchell Rivers, Spencer Rivers, Leon Norsworthy, Matt Branam, Christian Walters, and Noah Barnhill. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. John Sandifer and Jim Matthews.
