Zella Mae Davis passed away at her home in Seminole, Oklahoma on Friday January 8, 2016 at the age of 87 after a six-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Zella was born in Logansport to Ruby L. Cherene and Bunnie Ozella Petty Cherene on February 22, 1928. She was raised in Florien where she married Reginald Ray Davis on July 19, 1946. They lived in Natchitoches where Ray completed his B.S. in Agriculture. They relocated to Westlake in 1952 where they raised three children before returning to Florien. Reginald passed away on July 14, 2010 five days before their 64th wedding anniversary. Zella obtained her LPN license at Sowela Tech in Lake Charles. She loved to bowl, enjoyed bird watching and sewing. She was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter in Westlake. She was a member of Siloam Baptist Church in Many. After her husband’s death she movedto Oklahoma to be near her son and became a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Seminole. When asked what her greatest achievement in life was, she stated, “Motherhood and raising our three children.” She is preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Bunnie Cherene; her husband of 64 years, Reginald Ray Davis Sr.; brother, Joe Lee Cherene and sister, Jane Ann Cherene Austin and granddaughter, Melissa ‘Missy’ Cannon. She is survived by daughters, Sandra Davis Landry of Humble, Texas and Linda Davis Stringfellow of Conroe, Texas; son, Reginald Davis of Seminole, Oklahoma; sisters, Lola Cherene Kesner of Haughton and Sybil Cherene Lewandowski of Baton Rouge; brother, JD Cherene of Tallula; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Graveside services were held January 15 and Zella was laid to rest at Florien Cemetery, with the Rev. Wilton Anthony officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Craig Davis, Greg Dalton, Jared Landry, Eric Davis, David Davis, and David Stringfellow. Services were under direction of Fisher Funeral Home of Holdenville. www.fisherfh.net
