On Sept. 15, the first Timber Harvesting Equipment Operator (THEO) class received their diplomas after several months of grueling coursework. Several years ago, the timber industry became aware of the need for trained operators for harvest. The need has only increased due to attrition in the industry and a shortage of skilled operators to replace retirees. With the business cost of the industry increasing exponentially over time, employees being trained on the job is not possible, which makes the THEO program so valuable to logging-centric locations.
