Michael Wayne Callender, 65 of Urania, passed away Aug. 9, 2015. Funeral services were held at Aug. 14, in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers in Jena, officiated by Bros. Johnnie Phillips, pastor of First Baptist Church in Olla and Dean Johnson of Old Pisgah Baptist Church in Marthaville. Burial followed at Urania Cemetery in Urania. Mike Callender was born in Urania on Sept. 2, 1949. He was married to Marilyn Cooper Callender for 46 years. He worked in the plywood industry for 30 plus years. Mike enjoyed quality time with his family, especially sitting around on the porch drinking coffee and sharing stories and hanging out with his little Yorkie, Suzie. Mike is survived by his wife Marilyn Cooper Callender, daughter, Jennifer Callender Brown of Ruston; sons, Houston Doyle Callender and wife, Paula, of Pleasant Hill and Kevin B. Callender and wife, Heather, of Ruston; six grandchildren, Ashley, Shannon, Kate, Bradley, Alli and Eli; brothers, Houston and Gary Callender; sisters, Elaine Heflin and Sylvia Stewart and a host of nieces and nephews. Mike is preceded in death by his parents Houston B. and Ophelia Callender; maternal grandparents, Walter and Katie Mae Sanders; paternal grandparents, Henry and Alice Callender. Pallbearers were James Houston Callender, Trey Callender, Michael Joe Williams, Jeffrey Williams, Sean Brummet, and William Heflin. Honorary pallbearers were John Franklin, Lane Callender, Derek Callender, Will Powell, Adam Powell, Shea Brummet, Dan stringer, Dale Stringer, and Matt Cooper.
