Born on Jan. 26, 1930 Garvis Joy “Jo” Lopez spent her childhood in Zwolle surrounded by a community full of family and friends. As a young woman Jo moved with her family to Shreveport where she lived most of her adult life. After retirement, Jo returned to Zwolle where she was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She loved her prayer group and being part of the “Red Hats.” To be near her immediate family, Jo moved in recent years to a nursing facility outside Dallas, Texas where she died unexpectedly but peacefully on July 24, 1915 at the age of 85. Jo loved people and being in the mix of activities. She was the proverbial social butterfly at her nursing home where she had a wonderful group of caregivers and friends. She loved her home and being so close to family. She was cheerful, happy and among the first to the activity hall for games, sing-alongs, or pampering time to get her nails done. Jo led a happy and full life. Jo is preceded in death by her parents, Julia and Ed Lopez and brothers, Anthony, Leamon and Gerald Lopez. She is survived by her immediate family including sister, Patricia Bryant of Rockwall, Texas; sisters-in-law, Darlyne Lopez of Mesquite, Texas and Shirley Lopez of Zwolle; nieces Sheri Aaron of Rockwall, Texas, Melissa McNeil of Mandeville and Kendall Lopez of San Antonio, Texas; nephews, Gerald Weems of Tyler, Texas, James Weems of San Jose, California, Ronald Weems of Doyline, Eric McNeil of Mandeville and from Rockwall, Texas, great-niece Julie York and husband, Daryl; and their children, Shelbi, Reese and Daniel York who were joy of Jo’s life. Jo is also survived by a number of cousins and other members of a large family living throughout the United States. The family is grateful to all those who were so kind and helpful to Jo throughout her life. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Zwolle on July 31.
