Hulan E. Arnold, 83, entered into rest at his home on April 16, 2015. He was born in Columbus on Aug. 29, 1931 to the late Enoch Castle “Bud” and Beulah Mae Er-win Arnold. He was the eighth of nine children. He was preceded in death by siblings, Gracie Al-lison, James L. Arnold, Harold Arnold, Geraldine Pelanconi, William H. Arnold, Jeanette An-drus, Betty Moseley, and Joseph C. Arnold. He leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews. Hulan attended school at Negreet. He enlisted in the mili-tary on Oct. 12, 1948, with the written consent of his parents. Because of the start of the Kore-an War, his tour of duty in Guam was extended at the convenience of the government. He received an Honorable Discharge from the army at Fort Eustis, Va. on June 24, 1952. Hulan lived and worked in California for a number of years before returning home. He spent his childhood years and most of his adult life near Boone’s Land-ing. He worked for 22 years at Boise Cascade until retirement. Hulan was an avid gardener. He enjoyed caring for a wide va-riety of beautiful flowers, bulbs, roses and shrubs. He also had a passion for woodworking and gunsmithing. He created many artfully handcrafted carved gun-stocks and knife handles. He was a staunch supporter of freedom and a lifetime member of the Na-tional Rifle Association. A memorial service was held on April 22 at the homestead on Arnold Road. The Rev. C.M. Kelly officiated. His ashes were scattered around the sundial in his garden. Hulan’s niece, Freda Arnold, would like to express her grati-tude to Will and Dorothy Lang-ley, Ed and Jewel Corley, Bro. Kelly, Case Manager Tina Con-erly of Hospice of Leesville, and the Rev. Daniel Lowe for their support and care during his brief illness. As they experienced, Hu-lan had a strong constitution and never wavered in his resolve.
