Funeral service for Cuthbert Eli Smith, 98, of Many were held on Monday, Nov. 24, at 11 a.m. at Warren Meadows Funeral Home chapel in Many with the Rev. Joe Ratcliff officiating.  Burial followed in the Many Cemetery. Cuthbert “Bert” Smith was born on Nov. 28, 1916, in Many. He passed away on Nov. 21, 2014, at Sabine Retirement  Center in Many. He was raised in Many and attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. He served five years in the Army Air Corp in the South Pacific during World War II. While stationed in Albuquerque, N.M., he met and married the love of his life, Ruth Marie Kimball of Albuquerque. They were married for 70 years, and had four children, Robert K. Smith, Kathy Smith Johnson, Edward E. Smith, and Mike A Smith. During his life, he excelled at cattle ranching, farming, the banking business, and especially tree farming. He was an excellent father, husband, mentor, and leader of his family. His greatest joys in life were dancing with his wife, spending time with his family, hunting doves, ducks, and working at his farm. He loved to visit with his friends and was very fond of fish fry dinners and socials at  the lake. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and his wife, Ruth. He is survived by his children, Robert and his wife, Kim, Kathy, Ed, and Mike; grandchildren, Mandy Smith  Landefeld, Alison Smith, Lauren Smith, David Smith, Cameron Smith, Mackenzie Smith Ledet, Keaton Smith, Megan Johnson, Stephen Johnson, Jacklyn Smith and Michael  Smith; great grandchildren, Drew Landefeld, Gracie Landefeld, Grant Landefeld , Dylan Johnson, Riley Johnson, Miles Johnson, Tyler Johnson, Bryce Johnson, Willis Ledet, Henry Ledet and Dawsyn Smith.
