The 2025 Tamale Fiesta poster shows the bright colors and joy of Zwolle’s much-loved yearly celebration. Local artist Dorothy Sweet Calhoun created the colorful artwork. The poster was unveiled on Thursday, September 11th. During the event, people met the artist and participated in an auction for her original watercolor painting and the first prints of the poster.

Calhoun’s colorful design of a sombrero captures the energy and traditions of the Tamale Fiesta. She continues the art tradition that has become a special part of this beloved community event. Calhoun is the first African American poster artist of the Tamale Fiesta Poster.

This year’s poster is sponsored by the family of Martha Rivers Henderson. They wanted to celebrate her lifelong dedication to the Zwolle community. The family also placed the winning bid for Calhoun’s original artwork at the ceremony.

Martha’s grandson, Dr. Cody Bruce, shared why the family chose to sponsor the poster. “We are proud to honor my grandmother, Martha Rivers Henderson,” he said. “She has always worked to keep our community’s traditions alive, especially the Tamale Fiesta. Ever since I was little, she taught me to love our church and community. This poster is our way of showing how much we love and appreciate everything she has done for Zwolle.”
