It was a surprise to both Robert and Laurie Gentry of Many when they were on a cruise out of Galveston recently, and on the third day of the cruise, learned longtime friend Tracy Pitcox of Brady, TX was on the same ship. They met over dinner and renewed their friendship, although they had not seen each other in years.
Gentry stated, “I have known Tracy for several years. He is a fine gentleman who has spent so much time promoting and keeping traditional Country Music alive. When I closed the Robert Gentry Museum in Many years ago, Tracy acquired the life-size figures I had of Hank Williams Sr. and Roy Acuff, along with several other interesting Country music museum items.”
The two had rarely seen each other since that time, so they had a lot of catching up to do.
Tracy was on the cruise to host his 18th Annual Heart of Texas Country Music Cruise. With him was a group of over 200 classic Country fans, and during the week he held three concerts featuring several Country music performers, including Texas Country legends Tony Booth and Darrell McCall, as well as the granddaughter of Loretta Lynn, Tayla Lynn, from Tennessee.
Watchers of RFDTV will recognize Tracy as the familiar face and voice of the new “Malpass Brothers Show” TV show where he always opens and closes the show. Tracy recently took over management of that Traditional Country brother act.
He is well-known in Country music circles having promoted it heavily in the central Texas area for many years. Tracy founded the Heart of Texas Country Music Association 35 years ago. He also operates the Heart of Texas Country Music Museum in Brady. That museum is regarded as among the best in Country music museums in America. His group is currently making plans to enlarge the current museum to twice its size. Over 100 Country artists are represented in the museum.
In addition to all of this, Tracy runs Heart of Texas Records. He has spent many years promoting Traditional Country music. On top of everything else, he has is on the air four hours a day broadcasting a daily radio program on KNEL in Brady.
The heart of Texas Country Music Museum is located at 1701 South Bridge St. in Brady, TX. If you are ever in the area, be sure and drop by for a visit. Admission is free, and visitors will see a number of items that once called Many, LA home.
