Dorothy was born on September 25, 1927 to Charles C. West and Jane Funderburk West in Barham, Louisiana and passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 in Shreveport.

Dorothy was a resident of Shreveport and worked for the Caddo Shreveport Health Unit, retiring after 30 years of service. She enjoyed retirement for 48 years. She loved preparing wonderful meals for her family and friends. She was the perfect hostess! She had a servant’s heart and took many tea cakes to family and friends in the hospital. She was happiest while serving others. She was a prayer warrior, a devoted wife, mama, and mamaw.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Jane West; first husband, James Harvey Bardwell; second husband, A.V. Bardwell; brothers, Debs, Charlie, and M.C. West; sisters, Mina Kinkennon, Ruth Ellzey, Ila Mae Davis, and Inez Dowden. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Carolyn Bardwell; son, Jimmy and wife, Becky Bardwell; grandsons, Blake, Jeremy and wife, Brooke, and Joseph Bardwell; great-grandchildren, Maverick, Maggie, Kaden, Karson and Zoe Bardwell.

Honoring Dorothy as pallbearers were Blake Bardwell, Jeremy Bardwell, Joseph Bardwell, Allen Ellzey, Greg Ellzey, and Jonathan Hyatt.

The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Rushing and Dr. Albert Krause, the Highland Hospital nursing staff and Christus Hospice Shreveport-Bossier for their excellent care and compassion for our mama.

The family suggests memorials may be made to Prewitts Chapel Cemetery Fund in Dorothy’s name.
