Visitation began on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at 5 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in the Toro Community. Tommy Dailey was born on Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1940 in Shreveport. He passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at his residence in Florien. Tommy was blessed early with the skills of his hands and worked a majority of his life as a mechanic professionally and for friends. As a young man, his passion drove him to building most of the cars he would drive and after spending four years in the U.S. Air Force, his skills and knowledge were broadened for greater achievements. He spent a number of years working at Ellis Piston and Round Tree Oldsmobile in Shreveport. Tommy fell in love with a Florien girl and they were married on Sept. 11, 1964. Tommy and his new bride, Jaquetta made their home and family in the Toro Community in Florien, while he continued his career at Lowery Chevrolet, NorDrill Offshore Co, and retiring from the Sabine Parish Police Jury. Unable to sit still and years of determination, he returned back to work at Military Truck Parts and M.C. South Construction Company. Tommy would repair anything from bicycles, go-karts to heavy equipment and 18 wheelers. Following his second retirement, he continued to work on anything in his driveway and could always be relied on for telephone advice. Tommy’s last job was helping his grandson rebuild his truck with a new engine, at the age of 73 and was completed just two weeks prior to his death. There have been many memories with family and friends around those old vehicles. Some good and some bad but most of all they were memories that will always be cherished. He is survived by his wife, Jaquetta Dailey of Florien; three children, Janice Renae Dailey of Shreve port; John Raymond Dailey and wife, Paige of Florien and Trudie Elizabeth Gilcrease and husband, Brian of Florien; one brother, Mike Dailey of Shreveport; one granddaughter, Sami Staddon and husband, Zack of Norfolk, VA; five grandsons, Matthew Dailey of Florien; Logan Gilcrease of Florien; Layton Gilcrease of Florien and Kane Bozeman of Florien; one special grandson, Braden Browning of Dodson; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
