Services for Sidney “Sam” Johnson, 83, of Kilgore, formerly of Many, were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Hampton officiating. Burial followed in Hallsville Cemetery. Mr. Johnson died  Sunday, June 29, 2014 in Kilgore, Texas. He was born May 22, 1931 to Sidney and Grace Blackwell Johnson in Newgulf, Texas. Mr. Johnson was a 1949 graduate of Wharton Texas High School. Later that year, he enlisted in the United States Marines. Sergeant Johnson was honorably discharged in November 1952. Mr. Johnson worked for Dowell Chemical Company until his retirement in 1983. In his retirement, e and his wife, Yvonne moved to Toledo Bend area where they sold bait to local marinas. He enjoyed building birdfeeders, feeding the many birds that visited his yard, and butterfly gardening. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 34 years, Yvonne Johnson of Kilgore; sister, Mary Elizabeth Thweatt; son, David M. Johnson; daughters, Virginia J. Dintini, Dianne J. Diprosperis, Debra J. Kusner, Kathy J. Jenkins, step-children, Sharon Bryant, Valerie J. Williams, Marklin J. Scalisi, Meloney S. Mitchell; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Maurice Johnson, Sr. and Grace Ardell Blackwell Johnson, and a brother, Richard H. Johnson. Please leave online condolences www.raderfuneralhome. com.
