Walt Korb was born in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, He spent his formative years there with his parents, Fred, and Mary Korb. He is the proud father of three children and three grandchildren.

When he finished high school, he chose to enter the military for his career. He served active duty from 1973 until 1996. He is now a Retired Chief Warrant Officer of the United States Army. This rank indicates his performance and dedication to service to his country over many years.

Walt served in Somalia and three tours of duty in Germany during part of his military career. He multiple metals and awards during his time of service including Meritorious Service Award (2nd award); Army Commendation Metal (5th award); Am Forces Expeditionary Metal and the United Nations Service Metal.

Commander Korb now lives in Noble, Louisiana and remains active in the community. His serves as Commander of VFW Post 5187 Zwolle/ Noble in Zwolle, Louisiana where he initiates programs to involve veterans in events and services for the community. He is also Commander of District 12 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department of Louisiana expanding his service to a wider region. He serves as Senior Vice Commander of the Sabine Chapter 21, Disabled American Veterans. Walt maintains an American Legion and Military Officers Association of America Lifetime Membership. He serves as President and Chairman of the Board of the West Louisiana Veterans Memorial Park. He is a 2023 inductee to Marquis “Who’s Who in America”. He holds multiple offices to better serve veterans and citizens in our area and this honor for citizenship is well-deserved.

His specific service to the parish includes his leadership and oversite of events and projects that involve VFW Post 5187 membership, local citizens, and organizations. The “Circle of Freedom” display in Zwolle, Louisiana, located north of town was originated by Walt. This inspiring display of flags on the Purple Heart Highway, known to us as LA. Highway 171, serves to honor our country and the sacrifice of veterans though our country’s history.

As commander of the local post, he initiated a donation from the organization of ten thousand dollars to the Zwolle Tamale Fiesta to assist in their annual festival that celebrates community, customs, and culture. Likewise, they donated to that same festival by purchasing the 2023 Annual Commemorative Poster by virtue of the highest bid during its auction.

Zwolle/Ebarb VFW Post 5187 members are always willing to provide service to the community by volunteering to work the admission gate at the Zwolle Tamale Fiesta. The community participates in the weekly bingo held at the local hall to join in friendship and food as well as a time to celebrate the people of the area.

Service projects for veterans are common under Commander Korb’s leadership. One such service included assisting a Korean War Veteran who needed a form of transportation. He was enabled him to acquire a used vehicle to provide for vital transportation to necessary locations for his personal needs.

Walt Korb is an asset to our community; he serves a need for leadership and servitude to local veterans who continue to work and provide service. He inspires the community by his desire to support and join for common harmony and strength. He is by all definitions, not just a good citizen, but has a legacy as a Great Citizen.
