The Sabine Humane Society made a decision at its July board meeting that should have a positive result for many of the dogs and cats housed at the Sabine Animal Shelter on McDonald Drive.

Adoption fees for all dogs, cats, puppies and kittens will now be only $25. This low fee for adoption will also include all vaccinations, a clean bill of health, a microchip, a spay/neuter voucher, and a collar from Family Farm and Garden.

Dogs and cats that have been at the Shelter for more than 30 days may be adopted without any charge at all. Senior dogs and cats also may be adopted for free. Military veterans and senior citizens will not have to pay an adoption fee either. All vaccinations, a microchip, a spay/neuter voucher and a collar will still be included.

These very low adoption fees at the Sabine Animal Shelter were first implemented as a “Summer Special”. Adoption numbers quickly increased. Board members were pleased and decided to make the low adoption rates permanent.

“We want the animals at the Shelter to find ‘furever’ homes, said Humane Society President Jackie Conyer. “We think this is one way we can get more animals adopted more quickly. That’s our main goal – that the animals here can end up living the rest of their lives in homes where they are loved and cared for.”

Lisa Butler, longtime manager of the Shelter, is pleased with the board’s decision to lower the costs for adopting a pet from the Shelter.

“With inflation, people can’t afford the higher fee we used to charge for adopting an animal from our Shelter. Now these lower fees will make it possible for someone who would love to have a pet to afford the cost of adopting from the Sabine Animal Shelter,” Butler stressed.

She and Conyer are inviting people to come to the Shelter and visit the cats and dogs so they can find one that fits perfectly wit their family. Hours at the Shelter are from 9 to 3 Monday through Friday for visitors. The Shelter phone number is 318256-2275.

The two animal lovers want everyone to “Don’t shop. ADOPT!”
