Two lucky women won the raffles at the Sabine Humane Society booth at the first Fall Festival on Main Street.

Donia McCann bought raffle tickets and was notified that she had won the small cat/dog carrier. She came by the Sabine Animal Shelter later to pick up her prize.

Amie Brown, city clerk for the Town of Many, was notified that she had won the free spay/neuter voucher, a value of approximately $150. Brown said the voucher will be used to spay Bella, who belongs to Brown’s young nephew who lives wither. Jackie Conyer, president of the Sabine Human Society said she was pleased with the large number of people who stopped by the group’s table to learn more about the Sabine Humane Society and its many programs to rescue, save, rehome, and adopt animals that end up at the shelter each month. Conyer said the shelter and Humane Society have been in operation for more than 10 years now and people are realizing all the positive benefits of having a shelter in Sabine Parish. Conyer said the Humane Society was formed to care for and provide temporary housing for the abused, deserted, and unwanted animals of Sabine Parish. “That’s our mission, she said, “and I think we do a good job.

Unwanted cats and kittens are a big problem said Conyer. She said on a regular basis the shelter takes in litters of kittens and puppies from dogs and cats that have not been spayed or neutered.

Conyer said the board voted at its October meeting to increase the number of free spay/ neuter vouchers given each month from 15 to 25. “ We all hope this will result in more people spaying or neutering their animals,” Conyer stated.

People who want a voucher are urged to call 318- 645-7156 at 8 a.m. on the first day of each month and provide the requested information needed to receive a free spay/neuter voucher.
