The Rising Sun Youth Group of the Choctaw Apache Tribe of Ebarb were recently invited to BubT’s Tamale House at Toledo Town to learn how to make tamales.

The kids learned both the traditional way of making tamales by hand and the modern, mechanized way that tamales can be made today. The Rising Sun Youth Group is committed to keeping our Native American traditions alive by educating our youth to one day become the next leaders of the tribe.

The tamale is now a widely-known food but has a special link to this area as it was commonly made by native American communities before being appropriated by the Spanish.

The group would like to extend a huge thank you to Trina, Bub, and the entire staff at BubT’s for allowing the kids this opportunity. If you and your child are interested in joining the Youth Group you can contact Jake Rivers or the tribal office.
