Mr. Richard Irwin Bagwell, age 73 of Zwolle passed away on Friday, June 18, 2021. Born Tuesday, April 27, 1948 in Jonesboro, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his parents, Mabel Brewton Bagwell and Ray Bagwell; and his wife, Karen Bagwell.
Richard Irwin (much known as Dad and Paw) Bagwell graduated Sulphur High in 1966, and McNeese State University in 1970. Not much after that he served in the U.S. Military from 1971-1973 and in Vietnam.
Mr. Bagwell returned to Sulphur and owned a business with his brother for 20 years, known as R & L Services. During retirement in 2010 he moved to central Louisiana to pursue his lifelong dream of fishing EVERYDAY. He also was an avid conservationist, and served on multiple boards, including Saline Lake Lake Commission. He enjoyed fishing trips all over North America; he visited Alaska twice, Mexico four times, and many times to south Texas. He went Big game hunting in Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas, Texas, and Nebraska. More than any fishing or hunting trip he ever went on, he loved the Lord and his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren the most.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Gail Bagwell; son, Damian Bagwell, of Lake Charles; daughters, Melanie St. Peirre Fruge’ (Tim), of Georgia; and Amy St. Pierre McDonald (Mike), of Sulphur; brother, Larry Bagwell (Sheran), of Sulphur; grandchildren, Jacob (Sam); Courtney (Weston); Mason; Joel; Andi; and Avery; great grandchildren, Ryder and Elliott; nephew, Heath; niece, Heather.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield with Rev. Larry LaFleur and Rev. Lamar Carpenter officiating. Interment followed in Antioch Community Cemetery, in Brewton’s Mill.
