Michael Mancil, Jr. passed away on February 17, 2021, at home in Baton Rouge, LA. He was born on January 20, 1976, in Shreveport, LA to Mike and Lou Mancil of Belmont, LA. Mikey spent his early years in Many, LA and then moved with his family several times following his dad’s job with Trans LA Gas and ATMOS Energy. Eventually his family settled in Big Spring, TX where he graduated from Big Spring High School in 1994 before attending Sul Ross University in Alpine, TX. After graduation, Mikey settled in Baton Rouge, LA, where he began his career with Roper Construction building custom homes.

Mikey had a great many friends and a large extended family. He was especially close to his cousins, Michael Esposito and Angela Esposito Thomas. Michael’s son, Jack, was the first of the children he shared a special bond with. The list grew from there – enjoying his time with them (and returning them to their parents). He was gifted with three nieces, Elyse, Hadley, and Marilyn, and a nephew, Nate, from his sister, Heather. He was a devoted, fun uncle who could always be counted on.

In October of 2019, Mikey was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He underwent surgery where most, but not all, of the tumor was removed before completing a course of radiation. After some time, he was able to return to work and live life on his own terms, doing things his way.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Milton and Eloise Mancil of Belmont, LA and Weldon Cleta Anderson of Many, LA; uncle, John Weldon Anderson; and three aunts, Pat Quayhagen; Ruth Anderson; and Mary Ann Anderson. Left to remember and appreciate Mikey’s life, are his parents, Mike and Lou Mancil of Belmont, LA; sister, Heather Paul and her children, Elyse, Nate, and twins, Hadley and Marilyn Paul of Baton Rouge, LA; sister of his heart, Angela Esposito Thomas; brother of this heart, Michael Esposito; uncle, Jim Quayhagen of Many, LA; Aunt Margaret and Uncle Darien Basco of Many, LA; Uncle Dave Anderson of Pearl River, LA; Uncle, Ray Anderson of LaCombe, LA; Aunt Mary and Uncle Ron Musser of Belmont, LA; Aunt Rose and Uncle Terry Gatti of Many, LA; and too many cousins to list who were well loved and many thought of as siblings more than cousins. He will also be remembered by his many friends, but most especially by his best friend, Christene Boudreaux.

Due to COVID-19 there will be a graveside service only on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery.
