Funeral services for Necley Vincent were held Sunday, August 2, 2020 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Jared Vincent officiating. Burial followed at the Many Cemetery.

Ross, more affectionately called Bootsie by all who loved him, was born on Sunday, February 23, 1941 in Pecan Island, Louisiana to Preston Reed Vincent and Irma Inez (Koch) Vincent and passed away Saturday, July 25, 2020.

Growing up on an island in South Louisiana, Ross grew up loving to be in the outdoors. He enjoyed at a very young age hunting, trapping and fishing. During high school, he worked as a guide on the island which eventually led to many other opportunities. Ross mastered many skills of self-reliance such as carpentry, canning, cooking, electrical repair, gardening, repairing machinery and sewing. He served for two years in the United States Army serving a period of time fighting for our Country in Vietnam. After being honorably discharged, Ross worked for Lufkin Trailers and Roadway in Shreveport. When he was offered a management position at Country Pride in 1974 this allowed him to make Many his home. Eventually, Ross landed his career as an electrician and maintenance manager for the offshore drilling company, Rowan Companies, retiring after twenty-seven years of service.

Ross was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in various callings in the church. He had the opportunity to serve as Bishop twice, once in the Natchitoches Ward and once in the Many Ward, ministering in leadership to congregations of about 300 members. He was an asset in the raising of funds to construct the local and current meeting house in Many. He also took pivotal roles in the church’s yearly Sabine Parish Fair food booth allowing for funding for the church’s local Boy Scouts of America Troop. He loved serving in the temple in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and searching out his family history and genealogy. He also loved and searched for opportunities to bless the lives of all those he attended church with as well as neighbors and friends.

Next to his Father in Heaven and Savior, was Ross’ greatest love, his family. He married Judy Lynn Hayes on June 27, 1966. To their union were born four children, twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. To his posterity, their Bootsie was perfect. Each thought they were his favorite. He gave tractor and lawn mower rides, pushed the swing higher and higher to the sound of squeals and giggles, filled up swimming pools in the back yard for water babies to play and attended every school or athletic event.
