Funeral services for Raydon Thaxton, 100, of Florien, were held on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Rev. Matt Warren and Rev. Rickey Robertson officiating and Stacy Stewart providing the music. Burial followed in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Raydon Maxie Thaxton was born on Friday, October 31, 1919 in Many. He passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2020 at his residence in Florien. Raydon worked for the pipeline company for 17 years. After moving back from Beaumont, Texas he became a farmer and rancher until he was 82 years old. The remainder of his years he worked for Brad Browning Cattle Company as Brad’s Foreman. He also served in the Navy for 6 years before and after WWII as a Petty Officer First Class.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Alva Thaxton; parents, Barto Thaxton and Katy Dell (Stewart) Thaxton; brothers, Lt. Robert Donald Thaxton; Thomas Bailey “T. B.” Thaxton; sisters, Inez Davis; Bonnie Corley; Edith Thigpen; Christine Byrd; Myrtice Fridell; and Irene Thaxton.

He is survived by his son, Michael Thaxton and fiancé Shirley Rodgers of Lumberton, Texas; daughter, Judy Thaxton Johnson and husband E. J. of Austin, Texas; grandson, Christopher Collins Thaxton; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers: Brad Browning, Tanner Browning, Brady Browning, Wade Thaxton, Chris Thaxton, and Greg Ellzey.

Honorary Pallbearers: Kim Kelly and Tonya Browning.
