Funeral services for Billy Ray Evans were held on January 30, 2020, at Pisgah Baptist Church with Reverend C.M. Kelly officiating. Burial with full military honors followed in Pisgah Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service.
Billy was born December 10, 1933 in Toro, Louisiana and passed away January 27, 2020 in Leesville, Louisiana at the age of 86. He served our country in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years. During that time, Billy was stationed in many overseas countries. After retiring from the military, he drove a truck cross country before moving his family back to Toro, Lousiana. Billy became a TV repairman and served the Toro Community for many years. Billy was a member of Pisgah Baptist Church and served as a deacon. Billy also helped with adding to the church facilities. He enjoyed camping and many fond memories were made on their annual camping trip out west. One of his favorite things to do was drive his tractor and bulldozer, often with a grandchild in his lap. Most of all Billy loved Lela Mae with all his heart.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Troy Evans and Gracie Brown Evans; sister, Imogene Brewster; and grandson, Matthew Evans.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 67 years, Lela Evans of Toro, Louisiana;
sons, Curtis Evans and wife Barbara of Toro, Louisiana and James Evans and wife Karen of Pineland, Texas; daughters, Linda Evans Presley and husband Michael of Toro, Louisiana, and Patricia Kopp and husband Jim of Greenville, South Carolina;
grandchildren, Haley Lee and husband Errol, Aaron Presley and wife Robin, Luke Presley and wife Meaghann, Lela Denney and husband Joshua, Amy Evans, Desiree Kirby and husband Shawn, Cathy Jo Weichmann, Carrie Rauhut and Peter, Brittany Parker and husband Van, Katie Kopp, Chris Evans and wife Natalie, and Alyssa Evans; twenty-seven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, and a host of extended family.
The military will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Pisgah Baptist Church.
