Funeral services for Nina Harris, 67, of Anacoco, were held on January 10, 2020 at Prospect United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Pennington officiating. Burial followed in the Prospect Cemetery.

Nina Harris was born on Tuesday, November 4, 1952 in Leesville. She passed away on Monday, January 6, 2020 in Alexandria. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Sandel and Ethel (Crumpler) Sandel; husband, Boyd Harris; and her brother, Rodney Ochiltree.

Nina lived and worked on Toledo Bend Lake, in Louisiana, for over 30 years. She loved the area very much. Nina and her husband owned J & L Marina on Toledo Bend in the eighties and early nineties. Nina managed most of the day to day operations of the marina. She loved bass fishing, but especially loved catching and eating brim. She loved to walk the beaches of the lake.

Nina was a prolific writer. She was the author of several books. My favorite, was her first, Homespun Theology, about our growing up years in Central Louisiana in the fifties and sixties. She wrote many articles and stories. When they owned the marina, she wrote many articles for the area fishing magazines. She also wrote occasional articles for the local paper. Many of her short stories were published in Romance and other magazines.

Nina was also a herbalist. She knew all there was to know about herbs. She had an answer for whatever troubles you had.

The main thing to know about Nina is her love for God. Her faith never wavered.

She studied her bible reverently. She believed in divine healing. Her beliefs were firm and strongly held.

She is survived by her sisters, Clara Sandel of Friendswood, Texas and Mary Kerr and husband Ben of Jefferson, Texas; brother, Bill Ochiltree of Many; nephew, William Salard of Jefferson, Texas; niece, Lee Ann Salard of Jefferson, Texas; niece, Sajel Salard of Jefferson, Texas; nephew, Jimmy Ochiltree of Conroe, Texas; niece, Laura Veenstra of Washington; niece, Sandee Brandon of Colorado Springs, Colorado; niece, Kristee Ochiltree of Katy, Texas; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
