Glenda West Tackett Zick, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, was led home by her Lord and Savior on February 23, 2019, at her home in Many. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family after a long, determined battle with terminal illness.

Glenda was born on March 7, 1947, in Monahans, Texas, to Nathan Ostel West and Lelie Corine Masters West. After losing her parents at a young age, Glenda and her sister, Barbara, moved to Many, where they were adopted by cousins, Dr. L.O. and Janie Tackett. She spent the remainder of her childhood in Many, and graduated from Many High School in 1965. While completing her B.S. in Dietetics & Institutional Management from Northwestern State University, she was actively involved in Delta Zeta sorority. After completing her degree, however, she decided her true calling was education; she returned to receive a teaching certification in elementary education.

For almost 30 years, Glenda taught kindergarten at several schools in Sabine parish, including Many Elementary, Zwolle High School, and Negreet High School. Glenda was also a member at First United Methodist Church in Many. She was an active member in the community, donating her time and talents to anyone in need, always eager to undertake a new project. She volunteered in the preschool at Methodist Church, along with various other local clubs and organizations. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, gardening, sewing, traveling, entertaining and decorating. She was lovingly called Aunt Ginny by a host of young people who were brought into her life through her daughters, neighbors, family and friends.

Glenda was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Morgan Zick; birth parents, Nathan Ostel West, and Lelie Corine Masters West; adopted parents, Dr. L.O. Tackett, and Jannie Johnson Tackett; sister, Barbara Ann Brown; along with her fraternal and maternal grandparents.

She is survived by her two daughters, Krista Zick Winfree of Deville and Kerri DeLane Zick, of Houston, Texas; grandsons, Jacob Shane Beasley, Brian Malcom Winfree, Jonah Aaron Beasley, Brett Matthew Winfree and Brody James Winfree; granddaughters, Morgan Beasley Atwood, Lelia Beasley Grimm and Brianna Lauren Winfree; great granddaughters, Macie Kay Grimm, Ava Camille Atwood and Katherine Lanell Atwood; great grandson, Rafe Bradley Grimm; sisters, Bashie Sue Waggoner, and husband, Maurice Waggoner and Pamela Ann Curtis, and husband, John Curtis, Sr.

Serving as pallbearers were Jacob Beasley, Jonah Beasley, John Curtis, Jr., Moses Curtis, Thomas Freeman, Brett Heil and William Tynes.

Honorary pallbearers were Jared Atwood, Justin Grimm, Brett Winfree, Brody Winfree, Jess Curtis and Jason Fluitt.

Services for Mrs. Zick were held at the First United Methodist Church in Many, on February 26. Officiating was Bro. Ray Spiller of First United Methodist Church.
