Funeral services honoring the life of Carrie Laffitte, 83, were held October 28 at Pelican United Methodist Church in Pelican with the Rev. Paul Gwinn and Lay Servant Jeremy Phillips officiating. Burial followed at Pelican Cemetery in Pelican. She was born February 19, 1935 in Harmon to Marion and Velmer Morse Richey and entered into rest on October 24, 2018 in Pelican. Preceding Carrie in death were her parents; husband, Marshall Mack Laffitte; sons, Carey Marcel “Cooter” Laffitte, and James Marshall “Jamie” Laffitte; sisters, Ruby Burns, Verna Gabel, Mallie Litton, and Doris Richey; brother, Vernard Marion Richey; and son-in-law, Donnie Averitt. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughters, Ester Ebarb and Dovie Averitt both of Pelican; daughter-in-law, Jackie Laffitte of Pelican; sisters, Maggie Barnes of Keithville, Saralene Touchton, Barbara Wedgeworth, and Patricia Cooper all of Pelican; brother, Charles Richey of Paragould, Arkansas; grandchildren, Kevin Phillips, Jeremy Phillips, Shelly Choate, Jacinda Gwinn, Donnie Averitt, Jr., Katrina McCammond, Danielle Daniel, Amanda Henry, Rickey Laffitte, Angel Thompson, Chrissy Henderson, Shianne Wilkins, and Levi Laffitte; 31 great grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and special friends, Marie Hays and Dawna Hays. Honoring her as pallbearers were Sonnie Averitt, Bruce Phillips, Christian Brown, Nathan Henderson, Travis Daniel, Mikey McCammond, Ben Phillips, Austin Henderson, Zach Henderson and Brandon Welborn. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be made to Pelican United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 103, Pelican, LA 71063.
