“My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.” Psalm 62:7 Services celebrating the life of Cecil H. Brumley were held at April 21 at First Baptist Church in Converse with the Reverends Glenn Bezerra, Gary Hanberry and Jonathan Hanberry officiating. Mr. Brumley was born March 26, 1921 in Many to Ella Dew and Walter Houston Brumley and entered into rest on April 17, 2018 in Gonzales surrounded by his family. He was a resident of Sabine Parish the majority of his life. After the war he moved to Converse and resided there until 2016 when he moved to Baton Rouge to be closer to family and in 2018 he moved to Gonzales where he resided until his homegoing. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Signal Corp. While stationed stateside and later in Hawaii, he helped to capture and decode Japanese messages. He proudly shared with family and friends the memories of those duties throughout his life. Mr. Brumley was selected to the Sabine Parish Hall of Fame in 2007 because of his service to Sabine Parish. He was a successful businessman, owner and partner of Brumley’s Store and Brumley Culvert Company. He served as a deacon of Converse First Baptist Church for over 50 years. Having served over 40 years as Wards 6 and 10 Justice of the Peace, he was recognized as the longest serving elected official in Louisiana. He was an active member of the Converse/ North Sabine Volunteer Fire Department and was an avid fan of ALL things Converse. His hobbies included fishing, growing and sharing flowers and vegetables, and traveling. While an active member of the Sabine chapter of VFW, he served as chaplain. Many years he served on the Sabine Housing Authority, helping to bring housing for many needy citizens of Sabine Parish. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 44 years, Marion Bordelon Brumley; granddaughter, Rebecca Brumley LeBlanc; brothers, Vance and J.A.; and sisters, Odie Williams, Eutha Mains, and Dorothy O’Quinn. Those left to cherish his memory are sons, Bob Brumley and wife, Sherry, of Converse, and Harold Brumley and wife, Pat, of Converse; daughter, Beverly Hanberry and husband, Gary, of Larose; eight grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two great- great grandchildren; brother, Hubert Brumley and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, the results of 97 years of love and family. Serving as pallbearers were his grandsons, Chris Brumley, Cade Brumley, Nathan Hanberry, Jonathan Hanberry, Branson Dickson, Nolan Rivers, Connor Gatlin, and Murphy Haydel. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of First Baptist Church of Converse. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 In lieu of flowers, please make donations to First Baptist Church of Converse, P.O.
