Funeral services for William David Durrett Jr. were held January 28 at Plainview Baptist Church with Wesley Farris and the Reverends Wayne Chance and Daniel Lowe officiating. Burial followed in the Plainview Cemetery. He was born on April 29, 1938, in Peason and passed away on January 25, 2018 at the age of 79. He was a 1957 graduate of Plainview High School. Mr. Durrett worked on the Toledo Bend Dam, built bridges in Shreveport, and worked in a steel mill in Fort Worth, Texas before working many years at Boise Cascade. He enjoyed working in his garden, tending his animals, and singing. Being a friendly person, Mr. Durrett never met a stranger. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, William David Durrett Sr. and Ruby Mae Wilson Durrett; sister, Juanita Faircloth; and brother, J.W. Durrett. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Eula Chance Durrett; daughter, Meredith Marie Durrett and Colt Layfield of Many; sons, David “Neil” Durrett and wife, Jennifer of Hornbeck and Joshua Travis “J.T.” Durrett and Fallon Armstrong of Many; daughter-in-law, Abigail Carline Durrett of Many; brothers, Russell Durrett of Plainview and Dwight Durrett and wife, Teresa, of Plainview; sisters, Betty Broussard and husband, Leroy, of Iota and Linda Ulmer and husband, “Mel,” of Magee, Mississippi; grandchildren, John Camden “J.C.” Durrett, Nathan Lee Durrett, Allie Grace Durrett, and Raeleigh Windsor; and a host of extended family. Pallbearers were Heath Smith, Jared Knippers, Landon Brown, David Mouhot, Jon Parker, Oliver Woodham, Andrew Ulmer, Bennett Brown, and Kevin Sigler. Honorary pallbearers were Richard Knippers, Ronnie Knippers, Michael Smith, Ray Knippers, Kyle Knippers, Raymond Keele, Logan Brown, Lowell Brown, Ty Knippers, J.C. Durrett, Nathan Durrett, George “Man” Coward, Cody Knippers, James Ulmer, Jacob Edwards, Tristan Crocker, Quintan Crocker. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Leesville, especially Keva and Dianna, for their wonderful care.
