Funeral Services for La- Wayne Horton, 82, of Many, will be held Wednesday, November 29 at 2 p.m. at Lewing Chapel with the Reverends Donny Paul Lewing and Joe Hendrickson officiating. Burial will follow in the Florien Cemetery. He was born Wednesday, March 27, 1935 in Many, and passed away Friday, November 24, 2017 at his home in Many. LaWayne had the privilege of being reared with the help of a very special Christian grandmother, Maude Bounds, who he fondly called “Mama.” He, his mother, and grandmother spent many happy years together. When he was 12 years old he joined the Many Church of the Nazarene. LaWayne graduated from Many High School in 1953 and then served in the Louisiana National Guard for nine years. After a two- year stay in Shreveport, working at Purina Feed Mill, he returned to Many and began work at Many Lumber Company. He was employed with the Tidwell family for over 20 years. His association with this family was treasured memory. In 1963, LaWayne selected his bride, Melva Knippers and they were married for almost 54 years. They later became the proud parents of two beautiful daughters, Jan and Jill, who have brought a lot of happiness into the lives of their parents. LaWayne very much enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His favorite pastime was raising cattle and riding horses. After working five years at Vancouver Plywood Mill as a salesman, LaWayne purchased Dove Builders Supply. His previous experience helped him to become the successful businessman he was for 22 years as owner of Horton Builders Supply where customers enjoyed visiting with him. He was a great asset to the community. He served the Sabine Parish Policy Jury for four years and also served as a member of the Many Church of the Nazarene for many years. For the past 11 years he and Melva have been active members of Lewing Chapel where he was a deacon and sang bass in the men’s singing group. LaWayne enjoyed attending church there with many cousins, including the Pastor Donnie Paul Lewing. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
