Funeral services honoring the life of Corliss Raye McElwee, 67, were held September 16 at Old Pisgah Church in Marthaville with Bros. Glen Howard and Chris Birdwell officiating. Interment followed in the Old Pisgah Cemetery. She was born October 20, 1949 in Pleasant Hill to Fred Ray Singletary and Perry Lee Brazil Green of Marthaville. She entered into rest September 14, 2017 at her home surrounded by loved ones. Corliss was a very special person who succeeded in life despite numerous challenges. A single mother who raised two children, she worked several jobs to maintain her household, became a licensed beautician and carried the love of Christ as a gift to everyone she encountered. She gained many special friends by treating every one with love and respect. She had a wonderful sense of humor which she passed down to her children and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, and Elvis Aaron Presley. She is survived by her son, Archie McElwee and wife, Melissa; daughter, Misty Birdwell and husband, Chris; grandchildren whom she loved more than life itself, Bayleigh Easley, Makenna McElwee, Emma McElwee, Weston Birdwell, Ava McElwee, and Stella McElwee; sister, Shannon and husband, Raleigh Britt; brother, Eddie Atkins and wife, Faye; special aunt, Gwen Hill, and cousin, Charlotte Lindsey, who was there from beginning to end; special nurses Beth Springer, Patty Weeks, Wyvonee Goodwin, and Sheila Bates, who were always there to meet her needs; special friend, Bridget Birdwell; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers honoring her were Rusty Britt, Wade Britt, Archie McElwee, Patty Weeks, Chris Cobbs, Lytle Bob Terrell, Pete Sattler and Ted Singletary. Honorary pallbearers were Louie Freeman & Weston Birdwell.
