Charles Leslie “Cookie” Rougeau, 75, of Many, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church with Father Mike Thang’wa officiating. Burial will follow in the Ft. Jesup Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Friday, March 17, 2017, at 5:00 PM at Warren Meadows Funeral Home, Many, LA. Cookie was born September 18, 1941, to Leslie and Opal Rougeau. He grew up in Many and Ft. Jessup, attending school at St. John’s parochial school and Many High School where he graduated in 1959. He lettered in football and baseball. He attended Northwestern State University, was a member of ROTC and the University Drill Team, marching in the Cherry Blossom Festival Parade in Washington, D.C. in 1961. The Team placed 2nd nationally. While working in the oil industry, Cookie was drafted and served in the Army, being recognized as the outstanding trainee of the regiment at Ft. Polk. Upon discharge, he worked offshore, becoming a driller for two different companies. Following an offshore explosion and fire, he recuperated and worked for inland oil exploration, attaining the position of Tool Pusher. Cookie departed the oil field for Over the Road Long-Distance Driving and ultimately became employed in the timber industry as a driver. Throughout his life, he maintained a passion for hunting and fishing and at one time was a licensed guide on Toledo Bend Reservoir. He loved animals, especially dogs, and treated them with great compassion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith; father, Leslie Rougeau; and mother, Opal Rougeau, R.N. Cookie is survived by his son, Charles Luray Rougeau and wife, Victoria; grandchildren, Christopher, Holly, and Grace Rougeau; brother, Jim Rougeau and wife, Jane, of Shreveport; and nephew, Greg Rougeau of Alexandria. Pallbearers were Mike Lyddy, Mac Lyddy, Charley Rougeau, Marty Colston, Bruce Taylor, and Bobby Sepulvado.
