George W. “Jack” Rivers, Jr., 89, of Pleasant hill rejoined his maker on March 6, 2016 at 6:30 a.m. at his home as a glorious sun rose. He was surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service was held on March 12 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many with Bro. Johnathon McManus officiating, George was born on July 6, 1926 in Baytown, Texas, to George W. Rivers, Sr. (deceased) and Sallie Mae Holder Rivers (deceased) and shared his young life in both Zwolle and Baytown, Texas. Being a child of the depression era, his values were simple and easy to live by: Family, Church, Country, Education and Hard work. Living by these rules he was quite an accomplished man. Serving his country during WWII and eventually retiring in 1964 from the United States Navy, he suffered many a loss in his lifetime including the death of his wife, eldest son and then his father, but refused to allow anything to keep him down. After retirement he moved to Louisiana with his three children, at which he opened up his own dry cleaning business and found the love of his life, Lucille M. Ott, who he married in 1966. This was only the beginning of the wonderful friendship and marriage. During the almost 50 years of marriage he became a father again to two wonderful daughters. With accomplishments too numerous to count and known as a “Jack of All Trades” to everyone, he was instead a master of all trades as well as becoming a professor at the same university which he attended. His “family” was everyone that he met, in that he spread his knowledge, love and assistance far and wide. Everyone was welcome and always greeted with humor and love- plus that extra helping hand. A man who cannot be replaced or even compared to for too many reasons to mention. The “spirit” was within him... in all that he did, said and believed. We are sad to see him go “home” and he will be greatly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his father, George W. Rivers, Sr.; mother, Sallie Mae Holder; son, George Henri Rivers; brother, Gerald E. Rivers; and sister, Alene Wright. George is survived by his wife, Lucille M. (Ott) Rivers of Pleasant Hill, LA; son, Garry Q. Rivers of Duson, LA; daughters: Regina R. Rivers of Pleasant Hill, LA, Gloria A. Scalese of Leesville, LA and Jackie J. Singletary of Marthaville, LA; Albert J. Rivers New Iberia, LA and sister, Marilyn Geist Gray, LA.
