Funeral Services for Laverne Tooke, 96, of Denton, Texas, were held January 31 at Bayou Scie United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nathaniel Langford officiating. Burial followed in the Bayou Scie Cemetery. Laverne Tooke was born on Tuesday, May 6, 1919 in Ben Lomond, Arkansas. She passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Joyful Journeys in Denton, Texas. Laverne worked during World War II at Red River Army Depot. Laverne enjoyed the many years of work at the drug store where she sold cosmetic, milkshakes and delivered medicine. She sold Avon for 7 years in the New Orleans district. Laverne was a devoted wife and mother. She loved gardening, cooking and baking. She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Bayou Scie Community. Laverne and Alvin lived in Raceland for most of their married life and returned to Sabine Parish after retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Luther and Floy Knox Cobb; son, Charles William Perry and brother, Luther Watson Cobb. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Ann Tooke Taylor and husband, Stanley, of Lewisville, Texas; son, Robert Richard Tooke of Zwolle; sister, Leoda Walker of DeQueen, Arkansas; grandchildren, Marcus Millwee, Jr. of DeQueen, Arkansas and Paul A. Taylor of Denton, Texas and loved her many nieces and nephews.
