Services for Mrs. Betty Pauline Cavanaugh Howard were held July 4 at Castor Bap-tist Church in Leesville. Mrs. Betty was born on April 10, 1943 in Leesville and passed away on July 2, 2015. She was a lifelong resident of Vernon Parish growing up in Slagle, graduating from Lees-ville High School and spending her married life in Hornbeck. Affectionately known as the First Lady of Vernon Parish, Mrs. Betty spent 33 years as the secretary of Hornbeck High School. She knew every child and was often called to act as the tooth fairy by pulling teeth. Even after she retired she at-tended Hornets’ basketball games whenever she could. She loved her family fiercely as well as her community and often times they were the same. She was preceded in death by her parents, Garland Morris and Mable Jeane Cavanaugh. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Frankie Alden Howard of Hornbeck, sons, Robert and wife, Shonda Howard, of Horn-beck, Rodney and wife, Kim Howard, of Ft. Worth, Texas and Ryan Howard of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Katy and husband, Matt Ste-phens, of Hornbeck, Lesley and husband, Brian Walls, of Mar-shall, Texas, Jacob Howard of Shreveport, and Courtney and husband, Daniel Williams, of Houston, Texas; great grand-children, Kora Williams of Houston, Texas and Raylond Howard of Hornbeck; sister, Shirley and husband, Charles Shirley, of Houston, Texas and brothers, Jack and wife, Pat Cavanaugh, of Hornbeck, Larry and wife, Linda Cavanaugh, of Bishop and Garland Cavana-ugh of Bossier City. Mrs. Betty touched so many, always showing up where there was a need. She will be missed by all.
