Memorial services for Patricia Ann Anderson Quayhagen, 77,of Many were held June 13 at the Warren Meadows Funeral Chapel in Many. Born Aug. 7, 1938, in Houston, Texas, she was the oldest of eight children born to W.B. and Cleta Mc- Cormic Anderson of Many. Fondly known as Pat, she died enroute to a Shreveport hospital on Wednesday, June 10. She had been a patient at Many Healthcare since April 2011 suffering from early onset Alzheimer’s disease. Although she had numerous health issues, she died from a cardiac event. She attended St. Vincent Academy in Shreveport and graduated in1955. Education was an important part of her life. She earned an undergraduate degree in English and a masters degree in English from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. She had completed all of her work on her doctoral degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, only lacking her dissertation. Mrs. Quayhagen had a great love for the English language and English literature and shared her knowledge with students in E arb, Pleasant Hill, Red River, Pickering and as an adjunct professor of English Literature at Northwestern State University.She married Jim Quayhagen on Nov. 19, 1957, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church of Shreveport. A native of Many, Quayhagen met his future wife when she summered with her grandparents, Louis and Jodie McCormic of Many. When they married, Quayhagen was serving in the United States Navy and was stationed in Phoenix, Arizona. They also were stationed at Virginia Beach, Virginia and Charleston, South Carolina, where he was assigned on submarine duty for 10 years. The family resided in naval housing and raised their growing family. Both Quayhagens were black belts in karate and became interested in the sport in 1964. At one time, she opened a dojo in Many and introduce many young people to the art.For years, she followed and reported on Many Tiger football as a reporter for the Sabine Index. She also did hundreds of special assignments, lending her writing talent for the enjoyment of readers. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her grandchildren, great grandchildren and a plethora of nieces and nephews. The family worshipped at St. John’s Catholic Church in Many and later at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Zwolle. In keeping with her loving nature, she donated her body to LSU Health Science Center in Shreveport.She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John Weldon Anderson. She is survived by her husband, James F. Quayhagen of Many; children, James Quayhagen and wife, Shelli, of Ruston, Eric Quayhagen of Sulphur, Victoria and husband, Jeffrey Allen, Jeffery Quayhagen and wife Alma, Julie and husband, Kelly Cotton, and Mary Amanda and husband, Greg Veuleman, all of Many; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Basco, Mary Musser, Rose Gatti and Lou Mancil all of Many; brothers, David Anderson of Pearl River and Ray Anderson of LaCombe and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
