Goldie Laverne Newton Parson was born Aug. 25, 1927 to Samuel Newton, Sr. and Alma Brewster in Many. Her siblings are Vernell, Samuel, Donald and Evelyn. Their mother passed away when was three years old and they were raised by their grandmother, Nettie Newton and father Samuel Newton. She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the New Jerusalem Baptist Church and was an active mem-ber and Deaconess until her untimely death. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 48 in Many. Goldie received her educa-tion at Sabine High School and was a proud graduate of Sabine Blue Waves Class of 1945. On Nov. 7, 1944, she and James L. “Bootsie” Parson mar-ried, and to this union 12 chil-dren were born. She also had a motherly bond with all children she came in contact with, known as “Madea” to many, and the lady that sits on the porch and waves to everybody with a smile. Goldie answered the call on March 8, 2015 in Natchitoches. She is preceded in death by her husband, James L. Parson; chil-dren, Paula, Steven and Aqua-nette Surratt. Memories will forever live in the hearts of those she held close in her heart, her children, Jacquelyn Parson, Jerome Par-son, Rickey Parson and wife, Veronica, Bennie Parson, and wife, Rena, Rhonda Van Buren and husband, Michael, Marva T. Parson, LaTonya Wardlaw and husband, Harry, Evelyn Par-son and Tara Parson; a special daughter, Brenda Chatman and husband, Robert; 31 grandchil-dren; 39 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; beloved sister, Evelyn Bush and brother-in-law, Arthur and nu-merous nephews, nieces, cous-ins and friends.
