Mrs. Gunivere “Gwen” Shavers Hyatt (née Morrison) died peacefully on Feb. 2, 2015 in Lake Charles at the age of 78. Gwen is preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Audrey Morrison; sister, Muriel Ryan; brother, Dennis Morrison and first husband, John D. Shavers. She is survived by her husband, Gerald Hyatt of Hornbeck; daughter, Karen and son-in-law, Danny Strickland of Anacoco, Brenda and husband, Glenn Hanks, of Sulphur; son, Robert and wife, Angelia Hyatt, of Anacoco; seven grandchildren, Daniel, Darren, and Wesley Strickland, Tyler and Jeremy Hanks, and Bethany and Joshua Hyatt; brothers, Evenuard Morrison of Springtown, Texas, Aaron Morrison, of Merryville, Kayla Park of Leesville, and many nieces and nephews. Gwen was born on Oct. 31, 1936 in Leesville. She graduated from Anacoco High School in 1954. She was an accomplished nurse having worked for Dr. Jabeen Fatima and Dr. Hussein Alammar at Leesville Rural Health Clinic and Dr. J.E. Hearn at Byrd Regional Hospital. She was beloved by all her patients. She was a dedicated servant of the Lord and an active member of Plainview Baptist Church where she also taught Sunday School. Services were held Feb. 4 at Plainview Baptist Church in Hornbeck. A burial ceremony followed at Good Hope Cemetery in Anacoco. Tim Leach officiated the ceremony. All were welcome to attend and celebrate Gwen’s life. The family would like to thank the caregivers at CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital and at Harbor Hospice of Lake Charles for their exceptional care of Gwen during her final hours.
