Funeral Services for Donald Walter Blum, 88, of Flint, Texas ,were held Jan. 21, at Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Zwolle. Burial followed in the Pilgrim Rest Cemetery in Many. Donald Walter Blum was born at his parental grandfather’s house on April 19, 1926 in South Trenton, N.Y., the second son of Irene Peck Blum and Werner C. Blum. He passed way on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015 in Tyler, Texas while under the care of East Texas Hospice with his wife, Eutha at his bedside. Don graduated from Holland Pattent Central High School in South Trenton, N.Y. in 1943, enlisted for the U.S. Navy and served four years. After leaving the Navy he settled in Houston, where he obtained a B.A. in Mechanical Engineering. Don was employed by Creole Petroleum Corp. in Venezuela and after one year returned to the U.S. to marry Eutha Brandon whom he met while attending college. They spent eight years in Venezuela, returned to the U.S. and Don went to work for Dresser Industries in Dallas, retired with them in 1986 and started his own business supplying mining companies with underground boring equipment. He is survived by brother, Malcolm Blum; sister, Eleanor Siegel; nieces, Cheryl, Joyce, Judy, Sonya, Helgia and Heidi; nephew, Eric along with a host of friends. Honoring Don as pallbearers were Darrin Brandon, Buddy Brandon, Douglas Brandon, Joe Don Cook, Dennis Dziekan and Jerome Dziekan. Honorary Pallbearers were Howard and Jack Brandon and Charles Pilcher, In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Hospice of East Teaxas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas 75701.
