John Bernard Ebarb, 100, died Jan. 4, 2015, at his home in Noble. Mr. Ebarb was born Feb. 12, 1914 in Ebarb to Cary
and Louisa Ebarb. He was the only son in a family of eight daughters, sandwiched between four older and four younger sisters. At a very early age, he and his sisters were left orphaned when their parents died suddenly within two years of each other. It was their resourcefulness and tenacious spirit that helped them not only survives, but flourish. He met and married the love of his life, Lenora Procell, at the tender ages of 15 and 17. He often joked that they “raised each other.” They were married 76 years prior to her death in 2008 and her loss left a hole in his heart from which he never fully recovered. They had 11 children, 57 grandchildren, over 100 great grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren. John wore many hats during his almost 101 years of life. He retired from his job at a gypsum mine near Las Vegas, Nev. but his fondest memories were of his early days of farming and tending hogs in Louisiana. He was a hard worker, doing whatever he could to support and care for his large family. John was known as “JB” to most of his acquaintances but lovingly referred to as “Papo” by his many grandchildren. He was a stellar example of unwavering faith in God and devotion to his family. He loved deeply and gave unselfishly. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 76 years, Lenora Procell Ebarb; daughter Bertha; infant son John; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is survived by children, Hester Caskey of Pahrump, Nev., John C. Ebarb of Ebarb, Ray J. Ebarb of Ebarb, Mildred Y. McKimmey of Reno, Nev., Dennis L. Ebarb of Johnstown, Colo., Edith L. Knepper of Sulphur Springs, Ark., Clara A. ‘Nettie’ Smith of Las Vegas, Nev., Betty Jo Peterson of Las Vegas, Nev., Samuel W. Ebarb of Las Vegas, Nev.; 57 grandchildren; over 100 great grandchildren and many great, great grandchildren. Funeral Services were held on, Jan. 7 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Ebarb, with Father Bosco officiating. Burial followed at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery in Ebarb.
