Murphy Lee “Shaft” Maxie Jr., 70, of Columbus, Ga. died on Oct. 5, 2014 at Midtown Medical Center. Funeral services were held in Edgewood Hall of Stiffler-Hamby Columbus, on Oct. 11 with Bishop Tony Thomas and Apostle Beverly Thomas officiating. Mr. Maxie’s final resting place will be at Jerusalem Cemetery in Many.  Mr. Maxie, son of the late Murphy Lee Maxie Sr. and Anna Bell Sweet Maxie, was born on April 6, 1944 in Many. Receiving Christ at a young age, he attended New Home Baptist Church. Mr. Maxie was a truck driver for many years where  he worked for Nichols Dry Goods Warehouse. He cherished his family and the time he was able to spend with them. He loved family gatherings, was very dedicated to all ten grandchildren, and would never miss a phone call from his brothers and sisters. Mr. Maxie was a very sporty man and was never considered a stranger to those he met. He  loved his sports and cowboy movies and liked to go on walks when time allowed. Mr. Maxie was also a member and affiliated with the Masons lodge. Other than his parents, Mr. Maxie was preceded in death by his mother who raised him as a child, Earlie Mae Maxie; brothers, Harvest Lee Maxie, and Robert Mc- Graw. He is survived by son, Bobby Lacy of Pineland, Texas; daughters, Rhonda Ford-Davis and husband,  Willie, Shonne Maxie, Angeline Maxie and Keyontia Maxie; former wife and friend, Doris Tenner and husband, Tommy; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother, Jacob Maxie and wife, Linda; sisters, Doris Harrison of Many, Dorthy Willison, Bettye Williams, Gertrude Sommers, and Elaine Williams all of Dallas, Texas;  sisters-in-law, Evelyn Murrell of Natchitoches and Belinda Maxie of Houston, Texas; aunts, Zena Lilly,  Glan Maxie; uncle, C.I. Maxie of Many; god sister, Constance Hollis of Many; god-brother, Robert Williams of Houston, Texas and several nieces and nephews
