Marie Largo Rowland, born Oct. 25, 1926 passed away on Aug. 7, 2014 at the age of 87. She was born in East St. Louis, Ill. She grew up in South Illinois. In 1944 she married James H. Largo. They had six children. The family moved to Zwolle in 1982. The couple parted on friendly terms in 1986. They both found happiness with another love. Marie married Herbert “Hoover” Rowland on Oct. 22, 1988. Marie was an active member of Aimwell Baptist Church. She loved missions and serves as WMU director at Aimwell. She also served for several years as WMU director of North Sabine Association. She was a volunteer firefighter for Aimwell Fire Department for 13 years. She loved playing table games with friends. She claimed the hearty laughs they had while playing kept her young and happy. Her greatest desires were that each of her family and friends would truly know Jesus as their Savior. Graveside services were held Aug. 10 at 1:30 p.m. at Denning Cemetery in Orient, Ill. The family received friends at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Many on Friday, Aug. 8. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Nellie Bullington Kerr; son, David Edwin Largo and granddaughter Michelle Cartier. She is survived by her husband, Herbert “Hoover” Rowland of Zwolle; sons, Richard Largo and wife, Sandra, of Florida and David Allen Largo of Utah; daughters, Diana Cartier and husband, Ric, of Texas, LaDonna Largo of Colorado and Ruth Strohfeldt and husband, David, of Illinois; sister Betty Stipes of Illinois; step-daughters Joanne Terry and husband, Gaylon, of Texas and Nanci McManigal of Texas; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren, nine step great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
