Funeral services for Dorothy Anderson, 80, of Florien will be held on Sunday, September 17,2023, at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Florien with Bro. Wayne Chance and Bro. J.P. Handy officiating. Burial will follow in the Florien Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday, September 16, 2023, from 5 pm until 9 pm at First Baptist Church of Florien. Dorothy was born on July 19, 1943, in the Spanish Lake Community of Natchitoches Parish to James Pleasant and Effie Mae Knippers. Her mother, one brother, and three sisters soon moved to Florien, LA, where she grew up. She attended Mt. Carmel High School and played basketball for the Mt. Carmel Lady Mustangs. She graduated high school in 1961. She passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023, after battling cancer for seven months.

On July 10, 1965, she married Glen Anderson of Florien, LA. They raised three children in the Florien Community. Glen worked his entire career as a successful self-employed building contractor. Dorothy worked most of her life as a homemaker, taking care of their three children. After her children were grown, she stayed at home to baby-sit and help raise her grandchildren, while her children worked.

Dorothy’s greatest passion, along with her family, was her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She worked in many capacities at First Baptist Church of Florien. She taught several Sunday School classes from young children, youth, young adults, to the older adults. She especially enjoyed working with the First Baptist Church of Florien Youth in the 1980s. Until her passing, she used every opportunity to share what her Jesus had done for her.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, James Pleasant; her mother, Effie Mae Knippers; sister, Millie Tanton; brother, Jimmy Ray Pleasant; and sister, Glenda Beason.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Glen Anderson of Florien; sister, Betty Knippers of Leesville; daughter, Kim Parker and husband Tim of Florien; son, Stephen Anderson and wife Susan of Florien; daughter, Cindy Byles and husband Mike of Many; Grandchildren, Myles Parker, Noah Parker and wife Ansley, Abby Parker, Tori Anderson, and Lyvia Anderson; Step Grandchildren, Justin Byles and wife Allie, Brandon Byles, Michaela Hovermale and husband Chris; Step great-grandchildren, Landon, Ayden, Mayzlie, AnnaLeigh, Ansley, Allen, Aaron, and Bexlynn; one great granddaughter, Kori Tate Lumpkin.

Honoring Dorothy as pallbearers are: Randall Beason, Bean Brown, Clay Corley, Terry Pleasant, Jaylen Knippers, and Harold Fernandez.
