In loving memory of Ruthie Carter, 78, of Many, Louisiana the wake will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023, at Jenkins Funeral Home in Many from 5 to 7 PM. The funeral will be on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Bethel Baptist Church at 11 AM.

Born July 5, 1945, in Florien, LA to Father Florida Johnson and Mother Bernice Johnson. Ruthie was the oldest of five children. She graduated Sabine High School in 1963 and married in November of the same year to James Clarence Carter.

Ruthie loved the Lord and started her Christian journey at an early age when she joined Bright Star Baptist Church. She was very active in the church: ushering, singing in the choir, and volunteering in several ministries in the church. She became a member of Eastern Star Chapter 48 on August 20, 1963. Her lifetime of service to her community was ongoing. She became a CNA and worked at Heritage Manor for several years, an Assistant House Manager at SARC for several years, and was a Meal Site Manager at Sabine Council on Aging until she fell ill.

Ruthie is preceded in death by her husband, James Clarence Carter; her father, Florida Johnson; her mother, Bernice Johnson; her sister, Debra Holton and her brother Raymond Johnson.

Ruthie is survived by her two daughters, Donna Wagner (Jack) and Joycelynn Sweet (Frank) and her son, Rev. Kim Carter. Two sisters, Mary Thompson of Natchitoches, LA and Margie Wilson of Georgia. Three half-sisters, Michelle Richard (Glenn) of San Antonio, TX, Carolyn Williams (Nathaniel) of Houston, TX, Mary Lee Johnson of Florien, LA and a half-brother, Florida Eddie Johnson Jr. (Mary R.) of Dallas, TX. Three grandchildren, Chad Carter (Vanessa) of San Antonio, TX, Sequoia Parmelee of Alamogordo, NM, and Skyler Sweet of Dallas, TX; four great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
