By Ramona Moore The Many Bass Club’s June 2023 Tournament took place on Saturday, June 10, and Sunday June 11, on Toledo Bend. Ten anglers participated in the tournament. Four of the anglers weighed in a full five fish limit. The weather on Saturday was overcast early with a strong west wind which shifted south and blew significantly harder in the afternoon as a front approached from the north which was followed by a squall line with 50 MPH winds, driving rain and hail. The club weigh-in on Saturday was completed just ahead of the strong storm, and thankfully none of our anglers were caught on the Lake by this dangerous weather. Sunday was overcast and breezy with strong southwest winds with temps near ninety, and the bite was negatively impacted by the previous afternoon’s storms. The Lake level was 171.3’, and the fish were scattered in the water column. The water temps were in the mid-eighties. The first and second place stringers were caught on Saturday and the third-place stringer was caught Saturday. There were four double digit stringers weighed in.
George Herr caught the first-place stringer which also included the big fish of the tournament. His winning stringer weighed 16.02 pounds and the Big Fish weighed 5.44 pounds. George reported that he caught his fish on the south end of the Lake by punching grass. Gary Moore caught the second- place stringer which weighed 15.47 pounds by fishing shallow water areas on the north end of the Lake utilizing frogs and soft plastics. Gary West placed third with 11.50 pounds and reported that he caught his fish shallow in the Mid-Lake area on jigs.
Gary West continues to maintain a comfortable lead in the Angler of the Year race with 84.12 points. The next four spots are separated by only 10 points. Johnny Flowers is second with 69.44 points followed by James Edwards with 68.85 points, George Herr with 60.91 points, Jimmy Campbell with 59.22 points, and Glen Swihart follows with 54.53 points.
