The Many Tigers football team wrapped up their regular season in style on Thursday, November 3 with a decisive 56-0 victory over the Lakeview Gators at home.
This win also clinched the Tigers’ domination of 2A District 3 and a bye into the regional round of the playoffs against either Caldwell Parish or Richwood. In the weeks preceding this match, they won district games convincingly against Jonesboro-Hodge 580, Winnfield 42-14, and Mansfield 61-18. The Thursday night game against Lakeview was a quick one, with the Gators obviously running the clock down from early in the first quarter, not long after a simple fake got the Tigers on the score 7-0. Lakeview’s second series of the game was a disastrous one, as a delay of game penalty left them in a yardage deficit early. A quick pass got a two-yard gain, but Tackett Curtis laid down the receiver. No long after, Curtis stepped right in front and a pass and ran roughly 20 yards for the second touchdown of the night, bringing the Tigers a 14-0 lead. During the next possession, Jeremiah James ran for a touchdown, bringing the score to 21-0.
Lakeview continued running clock during their next possession, but the Tiger defense was simply too strong. Junior strong safety Trevor Mclendon got hands on what looked like another interception but dropped the ball unexpectedly. The first quarter wrapped up shortly after, and the rest of the game was solidly dominated by the Tigers.
As mentioned before, the Tigers receive a bye for the first round of playoffs due to being the highest ranked 2A team in Louisiana. Action will resume next week against either Caldwell Parish or Richwood.
